Hi. I’m Pete Hensing.
I’m a user experience and technical professional with over twenty years experience working with Fortune 500 companies and large ad & marketing agencies. My wide range of interest, skills and talent has allowed me to successfully architect and build highly visible online brands, mobile apps, e-commerce, enterprise-level apps and other business-critical digital work. I lead teams, drive strategy and vision, manage and mentor, and still get my hands dirty when needed. Cross functional, t-shaped, collaborative, curious and questioning, I know when to think at a high level and when to get into the weeds.
I design and build guitar amps over at Honeymaker Amplifiers, where I can scratch my product design itch and pursue my passion for music.
Daimler’s Freightliner Supertruck surpassed the DOE’s challenge to increase fuel economy of transfer trucks by 50%, and they wanted a website to tell the story of their amazing truck. I helped concept the site and pitch to the client, designed the user experience and information architecture, and led the interaction design across the site.
PRECOR B2B Prototype and Microsite
Fitness equipment maker PRECOR needed an online tool to let sales reps sell products to national gyms. I helped design a business-to-business tool branded for each gym, allowing prospective purchasers to rapidly understand their purchase possibilities and contact the right sales channel. I conceived the information architecture and led brainstorming sessions to derive the site’s user experience, utilising Invision to create rapid prototypes.
Microsoft Xbox Campaign
Microsoft Xbox partnered with Twitch to to create a Super Bowl campaign to attract interest in the Twitch platform. I created user flows and timeline journeys to provide an overarching clarity into the campaign, and created wire frames and prototypes the complete online experience for mobile and desktop using Invision.
JELD WEN Promotional Marketing E-Commerce Site
JELD-WEN needed a complete overhaul of their promotional marketing e-commerce site. Taking into consideration corporate capital expenditure requirements and integration into Salesforce, I helped strategize the wholistic plan across multiple platforms, wrote business and functional requirements, and led brainstorming sessions leveraging technical constraints. I designed the user experience by creating the overall site architecture, built user journeys and wire frames, standardized the interaction design patterns, and oversaw the visual design system to maximize usability. Result is year-over-year sales increases of 16% companywide the first year it launched.
Lennar Corporate Website
Lennar needed a responsive site redesign to better communicate their brand with their customers. I assessed their current site structure and contents, creating a new site structure based upon my recommendations. I wrote business requirements documentation, created personas and user scenarios pertaining to the the key users and commonly performed tasks, and designed the wire frames for mobile, tablet and desktop devices. The client received a complete package of UX documentation, strategy and design recommendations to better humanize the brand and provide more engagement to customers.
Wieden + Kennedy
As an information architect and interaction designer at W+K, I filled a key team role in successfully delivering award-winning branding and marketing projects. I composed wire frames, user flows, drawn story boards, paper prototypes, and digital mock-ups for marketing and informational sites, mobile and social experiences. I mentored junior UX resources, and evangelized the value of user experience to the agency. I acted as the go-to studio resource for questions and problems related to user experience, usability, and interaction design. I worked directly with clients to understand their needs and the needs of their customers. I wrote taxonomies, performed content audits, reorganized sites for better findability and leveraged emerging design trends to solve design scenarios.
Nike, Corporate Communications
As the lead developer and key contributor on the communications team, I managed many aspects of the communications department. I was directly responsible for launching and maintaining multiple versions of Nike’s corporate intranet. I streamlined the digital publication process for our daily news stories by customizing a CMS, allowing the team to create magazine-style designs without need for development knowledge. I strategized features for updates and overhauls, created roadmap to success, delegated the importation tasks amongst team members, and regularly presented to superiors and executives. I conducted user surveys, interviews with global employees and performed architectural assessments to enhance the interface and information findability. I rapidly developed and designed web apps for internal communications projects, and produced live radio programs and podcasts streamed throughout the global campuses.
